about

This 1992 cassette release (Bruce's Fingers BFC 39) has been out-of-print for quite some time, and we're pleased to make it available once more, thanks to Bandcamp. A special treat for the BF completists out there!

---------- press quotes ----------

"Fiery enough to suggest that they may well be worth watching in the future." Kenny Mathieson THE WIRE

"Covering the free, swing and ballad bases the saxophonist acquits himself well with smouldering lines born of an ardent, rough but also polite conception, only occasionally dipping into overblowing/extended techniques . . . . . Fell's playing, which resonates with a Barry Guy-like avant flexibility, continues to evolve in terms of overall strength and inventiveness. Likewise, Hession's fluxing tightrope walk between and within free playing and pulse-based swing continues to impress as does the dynamic empathy between the bassist and drummer." Milo Fine CADENCE

"Fulfills all its promise. Beck is an powerful yet subtle saxophonist, Fell an effective and melodic bassist . . . . . sinewy and engaging music." Philippe Renaud IMPROJAZZ

"Powerful, committed and expressive free jazz" AVANT

N.B. This album dates from the early days of digital recording. Like most musicians at that time, we were thrilled to have the possibility of capturing our full dynamic range on tape, with minimal compression (cf. foom! foom! and other albums from this period). History has subsequently proved that for most people the domestic listening environment does not sit comfortably with a true reflection of the dynamic range present in performance - so we will probably remaster this and similar recordings at some point to reflect current thinking. In the meantime, just turn up the volume control to get the full glory!
